It’s not often that Abbeys Auctions sees a full collection of Art Deco pieces, but when we do, they are highly sought after!
Every week Abbeys holds a household goods auctions which includes lots of furniture items. These auctions are held every Friday at our rooms in Burwood. Every month we also hold a special Antiques and Collectables sale, perfect for discovering those unique and hard to find pieces. It’s in this auction that Art Deco is commonly sold.
What defines the Art Deco style?
Made popular in the 1920s and 1930’s – or in between the two world wars – Art Deco pieces are often sleek and geometric in their design. Materials used are commonly man made.
The style came from global concepts including Africa, Ancient Egypt and Greco-roman architecture. The Art Deco Society of New York website states that “Art Deco design can be found in all sorts of objects in its day – a simple perfume bottle was made to resemble a Mayan Pyramid; furniture was inspired by dynamic coloration of rich woods used in African design; and Egyptian motifs found their way to the lavishly design movie palaces.”
What’s particularly pleasing for Abbeys Auctions is the opportunity for beautiful, iconic pieces to go to new homes with people that appreciate and love the art deco era.
We have lots of art deco pieces available at great prices so check out our upcoming auctions to see what’s on offer.
