Estate jewellery
Abbeys regularly offers a wide range of estate jewellery at our Melbourne auctions, particularly from the mid to late 1900s, along with some more recent pieces.
Estate jewellery is defined as pre‑owned jewellery. It does not have to come from a deceased estate, although it often can. Pieces may date back as far as the mid‑1800s (Victorian era), but the majority we see are from the 1950s, 60s and 70s, which often fall into Retro, Art, or vintage categories.
Examples of estate jewellery we sell include:
Bracelets
Rings
Necklaces
Earrings
Bangles
Cuff links
Brooches
Pendants
Estate jewellery appears regularly in our fine jewellery & timepieces auctions, as well as in our weekly estates auctions and classics collection auctions.
Antique, vintage and estate jewellery explained
Estate jewellery: Pre‑owned jewellery of any age. It may come from a deceased estate, but not always. Most estate pieces we see are from the mid to late 1900s.
Antique jewellery: Generally refers to jewellery that is over 100 years old. These items are rarer and appear less frequently at auction, but they do occasionally come through.
Vintage jewellery: Typically defined as jewellery that is over 20 years old but less than 100 years old. This includes Mid‑Century, Art Deco, and other non‑modern pieces.
