Unique mid-century jewellery created by Vic Wood features in September Collectables & Classics auction

Every week Abbeys Auctions has the privilege of viewing and managing the amazing collections of Victorians. This is another wonderful feature to be showcased in the September Collectables & Classics Auction on Saturday 17 September 2022.

6 pieces of truly original mid-century jewellery

Vic Wood was an internationally renowned artist, craftsman and teacher in the 1970’s, 80’ & 90’s.

He is best known as a master wood-turner, with significant works on public display in Victoria and also listed in the NGV collection.  He was the first convenor of the National Woodworking Conference of Australia and was invited to tour and teach throughout England, Canada, the USA and New Zealand. During the 1970’s Vic also developed his skills and qualifications as a Silver and Gold smith.

These jewellery pieces were hand crafted by him in the early 1970’s. Sadly, Vic passed away in 2020.

What’s particularly wonderful about these pieces are the history that comes with them. Below is an article from the Daily News on the 11th October 1974, where one of the pieces being auctioned is featured. The article states “This bold silver creation doesn’t belong to its wearer, Sally Nicholas of Peppermint Grove, but for $180 it could be here – or anybody else’s. The necklace is part of an exhibition by Melbourne silversmiths at the Fremantle Arts Centre from today until November 10…… “

These unique pieces offer a remarkable opportunity for astute auction purchasers to obtain a piece of Australian design history. 6 pieces will be auctioned in September 2022 by Abbeys Auctions.
